Veronica Zheng, a second year medical student at the Feinberg School of Medicine, is implementing a music workshop and appreciation program at the ReVive Center for Housing and Healing. She has been working with ReVive community members to teach music theory and discuss the impact music has on all of us. Many of the participants struggle with housing instability, and Veronica hopes to encourage a sense of belonging and community during what is often an isolating experience. Many of the participants have requested instruments for the music workshops, including congas, ukuleles, maracas, and cowbells. One participant has also held a lifelong dream of learning to play the saxophone. Veronica seeks to raise $1200 for these instruments.

The Chicago Area Schweitzer Fellowship is a year-long service learning program for graduate students in health-related professions who will design and implement innovative direct service projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of underserved Chicago area communities. Through their community projects and participation in a year-long program that includes mentoring support, monthly meetings, written reflection, and interprofessional collaboration, Schweitzer Fellows are developing the skills and confidence needed to become Leaders in Service—professionals who will remain dedicated to public service and to creating change.
