Loíza proposed program, Atención, ¡Plena!, will provide culturally adapted mental health service to Puerto Rican teens through an intensive summer culture/support camp at the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center. To successfully implement the Atención, ¡Plena! project, we need your support in the amount of $2,350.00. We anticipate needing $950.00 for program materials ranging from dry erase boards to Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) games. We anticipate needing $800 for the printing of a Community Resource Guide that participants will assist in creating. By helping with the researching and development of the Resource Guide, participants will develop their awareness of and learn how to access community resources available to them and their loved ones. We anticipate needing an additional $600.00 for consumable supplies needed for participant activities that will result in their creating individual products such as an “Asset Bank”, a “Wellness Toolbox,” and a Vision Board. These activities and the products that result from them will be concrete symbols and reminders of the strengths and assets that participants possess to overcome life challenges and improve their health and wellness.

Each year family, friends, and the community come together to support Schweitzer Fellows as they begin to implement innovative public service projects in Chicago’s most vulnerable communities. Our 2020-21 Fellows have created online “wish lists” of supplies and resources that will help them realize their service project goals.
